Saurabh Sachdev

Saurabh, a trained architect and qualified lighting designer, is a Daylight Design Specialist and Senior Lighting Designer. Over sixteen years of professional experience, Saurabh has worked across some of the industry's leading architectural and design practices, including Foster + Partners, Light Bureau, Atkins, Lichtvision, and Kardorff Ingenieure, alongside freelance projects spanning public lighting, infrastructure and lighting visualisation.

Drawn to daylight from early in his career, Saurabh has always sought to bring it thoughtfully into every project, believing that when used with skill and intelligence it can transform both spaces and the way people experience them. He is passionate about daylight in all its forms, and believes strongly in looking beyond a purely technical, quantitative approach towards a more holistic one — bringing together aesthetics, function, environmental responsibility and economic considerations to create lighting environments that feel considered, comfortable and alive.

Saurabh's path into lighting design has been shaped as much by curiosity as by training. Having qualified as an architect, he went on to pursue a Master's in Architectural Lighting Design at the University of Wismar, Germany, in 2009, before completing a PhD at the University of Stuttgart and the Fraunhofer Institute, investigating the influence of daylight on behaviour and mood within retail spaces. Alongside his doctoral research, he worked as a research fellow and lecturer at the University of Wismar, contributing to the "Dynamic Light" project, which explored how public lighting control could be shaped around people's needs, expectations and preferences.

Open-minded, analytical and detail-oriented, he brings the same rigour and curiosity to every brief, and continues to be driven by a genuine desire to keep learning, challenging himself, and diversifying his expertise.
